Thursday - Get Busy

Image
It’s Thursday! Throwback Thursday I think some folks call it challenging us to remember those in our past and other good times. Yesterday wasn’t one of those past good times for me to remember! I had a headache that started about 4:00 a.m. and just grew progressively worse as the day went on. I finally got on the good side of it about 6:00 p.m. when it calmed to just a dull ache. Not a fun day to say the least. I spent most of it just lying around. About 6:30, I took a shower and knew I should eat something, but as I stood looking at everything in the kitchen I couldn’t get hungry for anything. Nothing. Then I realized I’d done nothing all day to build an sort of appetite.  Isn’t that just like our spiritual lives? March 24-Hope for Tomorrow

It’s the weekend! How are you doing? Yesterday, I caught just a few minutes of the PBS travel guy Rick Steves when he was in Thailand at a hidden Buddhist temple, after climbing 1,252 steps to get there. It is really beneficial for you.  I just kept starting at that little bald guy grinning into the camera and I couldn’t get him off my mind. I kept thinking that that Jesús Christ left the Throne of Glory, came to earth in human form—born of a virgin, no less—taught us how to live, performed miracles, was despised and rejected, sacrificed his life, conquered death, and gave us the Comforter In the form of the Holy Spirit, not so we could sit on a mountain top and meditate, but so we could have a hope, a hope for more ...

January 10-Wake Up

Good Wednesday to you! How did you wake up this morning? Ready to hit the ground running? Or did you need to hit the snooze a couple of times and then grab a strong cup of coffee to face the day? I have pretty much been a morning person all of my life. When I wake up, I’m awake and ready to do something.  Where do your thought go as you wake up? When I wake up, one of the first things I do is start to organize my thoughts, think about my day and what I’ve got in front of me. Today, I have several items to check off the to-do sheet so I tried to plan what needs to get done when. But the first thing I really try do is to consciously make my decision—my decision to follow Jesús this day. Sometimes I get preoccupied and blow right on by that and think about God later in the day by random chance. It’s easy to do but the situation is we can either decide to crucify the old man, or not and simply by omission, just live this day however it turns out. Somehow though, if we don’t make that c...
