Happy Monday and this begins our Advent week of Peace. It is a time for us to remember that “Peace is not found in the absence of difficulty but in the presence of the Divine.”

Last night, I attended our Advent service where we spent an hour in an extremely peaceful setting with candle light talking about the peace of God. Then, I went directly to our office party. We had a good meal and a fun time of gift exchange, but then, we played a crazy game. To say it was chaotic is an understatement. In the midst of it all, Adam said “This is so stressful!” And I thought, “It is certainly a departure from the calm!” But maybe not a departure from our peace.

“But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.””

‭‭Luke‬ ‭2:10-14‬ NIV

Peace. It just washes over you when you say it out loud, doesn't it? I’ve always love the old hymn, Wonderful Peace.

Far away in my depths in my spirit tonight

Rolls a melody sweeter than psalm

In celestial-like strains it unceasingly falls

O’er my soul like an infinite calm

Peace, peace, wonderful peace

Coming down from the Father above

Sweep over my spirit forever, I pray

In fathomless billows of love

Isn’t it great when we are so in tune with the Lord that no matter the chaos around us, we can still be at peace with the Lord? It does just fall over us like an infinite calm. When Bob and I had our engine failure at 10,000 feet and we had the “hard landing” in a field in south Oklahoma, neither of us had ever experienced a peace like we did in that 6 minutes of falling from the sky. That little cockpit was so full of the peace of God it was almost overwhelming. When we talked to people about it later, they would ask if we were scared to death and I would just laugh and say “No”. Bob always had this far-away look and would say “You know it was so surreal, that peace that passes all understanding? Well, it really does! There is no describing and certainly no understanding but it is definitely sent from God when you need it most.” Peace, peace wonderful peace. That’s what He brought when He came into this world and it’s still available to us today.

Lord God thank you for your peace. Thank you for sending it to this earth with your Son. The peace that falls around us no matter the stress or the circumstances. If the world around us is falling apart, you still provide for us that safe-place, the haven of rest for our weary souls and offer the peace that the world cannot understand. We adore you and praise your Name. Give us your peace as we reside in this world as we patiently await your return. We shout hallelujah to the Lamb for He is born, risen, and coming again. Amen and amen.

Love you dear one,

Pam
