December 14

It’s the Weekend! And we are getting close to the day we as Christians celebrate the first coming of our King. Last night, when I took Boomer out I was noticing all the shadows everywhere. It reminded me of one vivid memory I have as a child when I was about three. My parents were up drinking coffee and their shadows were huge on the wall. (Well, huge to a three year old) I couldn’t see them, only the shadows and they were talking quietly and I was afraid. I stood there for what seemed to be a long time because I was afraid to go around the corner to see the “real thing”.

The book of Hebrews is about Jesus coming to replace the shadows of the Law. He didn’t just come to fit in and be an earthly priest but he came to fulfill the law and put an end to the whole system. He is the real thing. And just like I was afraid to see the real thing, many of the Jews at the time were afraid to see Jesus for what He really was.

“Now the main point of what we are saying is this: We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, and who serves in the sanctuary, the true tabernacle set up by the Lord, not by a mere human being…If he were on earth, he would not be a priest, for there are already priests who offer the gifts prescribed by the law. They serve at a sanctuary that is a copy and shadow of what is in heaven. This is why Moses was warned when he was about to build the tabernacle: “See to it that you make everything according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.” But in fact the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, since the new covenant is established on better promises.”

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭8:1-2, 4-6‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Jesus came and the shadows have passed away. The real thing is here. That’s what Christmas represents to us—the real has come.

Lord God Almighty, thank you for replacing the shadows with the gift of your son. You are so very good to us we can’t thank you enough. We pray you would walk with us through this day and help us to experience your peace and your hope in ways we have never before. Teach us to love others and to have compassion and patience with them. When we feel like nothing is working out the way we planned, help us to be flexible and understand that it’s not about our ways but your ways. We love you and worship you today. Amen and amen.

Love you dear one,

Pam
