December 1-We are Covered

It’s officially the first weekend of the Christmas season, and so far been a cool, cloudy, windy one where I am and that truly is not my favorite kind of weather. I’d really like to just get in my car and start driving south until it was warm! But alas, I have a few promises and commitments to keep.

Friday night when I got home, my puppy did not want to go outside. It was cold and it was raining and then it thundered! He didn’t like any part of any of it. It’s really hard to potty-train a little guy when the weather scares them. We went under the eve of the house and stood there and I got him covered as much as I could but the thunder was scary and it was wet. Finally he relaxed enough to “go” and then he hurried back to safety!

I wish I could have saved a dry place where it would be perfect for him to run out and not get wet or hear scary noises. But to go outside, it’s not always perfect. The world outside is sometimes sunshine and the perfect temp with dry grass, but most often, something is not right. It’s too hot, too cold, too much wind, too much rain, snow, or sleet or lots of other things that can make it awful for puppies. And as you know, the world can be a scary place for us, too.

We can face financial issues, or job problems, difficulties with family members or co-workers, burn-out or depression, health issues, or even loss of a loved one. And compound any of these and the thunder and rain just might be too much for us. And the holly, jolly holidays can even make the ground muddier.

God is watching over us and shielding us but we are in this broken world. We will experience the sadness, the scariness, the heart-break of it all, because this temporary earthly place is not perfect. It’s scary and even though He is covering us, our feet may still get wet and we may still hear that thunder. He is a good, good Father who loves us with an unfathomable love that reaches down to where the ground is dry and way up above the rain clouds! When we are scared of the rain, He whispers “It’s just water, we’ll get through this, I’ve got you.”

“and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see. So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world. You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy. The reward for trusting him will be the salvation of your souls.”

‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭1:4-9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Father God, we give you all the praise for all you have done. Thank you for saving us and for showing yourself to others through us.and thank you for always being with us through every storm and shower of our lives. What an amazing God you are! Thank you for spreading your arms over us and protecting us from the rains and for the promise of the day with no thunder nor sleet nor anything but sunshine! We worship you this day. We ask you Spirit to help us to harness your power for our lives to make us wise and brave, to prepare us to hear your voice clearly and to lead us as we seek to draw others to you. Amen and amen.

Love you dear friend,

Pam
