November 6 -Greater Than

Happy Wednesday. I hope your week has gone well. I was telling someone this week about Tal in the AirForce and the first time I was on a base with him and someone saluted him. I was just so surprised, I laughed out loud. I wanted to say “Do you know who this kid is? He’s my little boy and could I tell you stories!”

Chapter three of Hebrews begins by reminding us that this book was written to Hebrew believers. It seems strange that the author needs to say that Jesus was much greater than Moses, but it was written only about 40 years after Jesus appeared. These early Jewish believers were very familiar with and knew all about the Jesus, the man. His Gospel was told to them in first-hand stories, so for them, He was just a preaching carpenter from Galilee (Mary’s little boy). Whereas Moses, was from the days of the Exodus and was placed on a pedestal. He was the Lawgiver who heard the voice of God and the great champion who brought their forefathers out of Egypt against all odds.

“Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest...Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself. For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything. “Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house,” bearing witness to what would be spoken by God in the future. But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory.”

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭3:1, 3-6‬ ‭NIV‬‬

It may have already been said earlier that the Son is greater than the Law, but the writer of Hebrews needed to say it again—that Jesus is greater than Moses. To accept Jesus as God when he was clothed in flesh and frail as we are was hard, especially for anyone who had seen Him or their father had see. Him. . And it is hard sometimes even for the church today to accept. The church is littered with philosophies that have tried various devices to separate the man Jesus from the Son of God.

Today, we see all kinds of philosophies that try to equate Jesus with other so-called deities and famous people. He was not just another philosopher or teacher. Jesus is the only Son of the Father; begotten not made; and of one substance with the Father.

“Jesus is the image of the invisible God… by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible.” Colossians 1:15-16

Lord God Almighty, thank you for your word this day. We praise you that although Your Son was made lower than the angels, He was still your son, still God. Give us wisdom Father that we may be able to discern what is right and what is good, what is truth and what are lies. We pray today for our family members who do not know You and your full pardon of sin and we ask you would work in lives around them so they may see your grace and love. We pray for hearts to soften and to open to you. We love you and worship you our great King. Amen and amen.

Love you dear one,

Pam .
