November 4–Heed the Truth

Happy Monday! I hope you had a great weekend and are ready to start your day. I had a great time in the Lord yesterday. I enjoy my corporate worship so very much and yesterday was particularly moving for me. It amazes me how many people I meet either go through the motions of church or simply take religion as an optional extra in life.

They will secure themselves from poverty, loneliness and disease first and then seek to achieve honor, power and glory. If we live that way, we will never let the Spirit to work in our lives and disturb our inner comfort zone. It’s not at all uncommon to hear “I take care of myself and my family first” letting Truth matter but never letting it matter so much as to threaten our health and security.

But the second chapter of Hebrews warns us to be careful how we respond to this important message we have heard from God. The Hebrews knew the seriousness of God’s word to them. When they neglected their Law and went after idols, they found that the Lord who loved them was not a God of empty threats. Although slow to anger, He duly fulfilled the promises of destruction according to His word.

“So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it. For the message God delivered through angels has always stood firm, and every violation of the law and every act of disobedience was punished. So what makes us think we can escape if we ignore this great salvation that was first announced by the Lord Jesus himself and then delivered to us by those who heard him speak? And God confirmed the message by giving signs and wonders and various miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit whenever he chose.”

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭2:1-4‬ ‭NLT‬‬

If God, because He loves us, shows us greater mercy by giving his Son to suffer death for everyone, how much more seriously and fearfully should receive what we hear. A message that cost God His Son, logically demands that we obey and follow, even if it causes great inconvenience. Are we really ready for that? To follow no matter the cost?

No eye has seen, nor mind conceived, what God has in store for those who love him.

Lord of Heaven, help us to define the walls around our comfort zone that we need to break down so that we will take your holy word seriously. Show us the areas in our lives that really matter so we can hand over control of that to you. We know that you know what is best even though we often times don’t act like it. You are our Father and we are your children. Help us to not only realize that but to submit to it. Forgive us when we fail and use those failures as teaching times for us. We love you and worship your name. Honor and glory and blessing to you our Great King. Amen and amen.

Love you dear friend,

Pam
