October 4-Strike up the Band

It’s Friday and today, we will bury mom. It’s not something I’m looking forward to doing, but her life should certainly be celebrated. As Jeff Easter says “...The one that she lived for wants her by His side. Strike up the band, it’s party time.” So...We will do our best.

The body we bury is but a tent that housed her soul and her soul has been clothed with the immortal and imperishable.

“When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?””1 Corinthians‬ ‭15:54-55‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Death separates those we love from us, and causes great pain to our human nature. It’s how God designed us—it how we are wired. Yet, as Christian we have cause to rejoice when a saint of God passes from this world. They are literally moving from death to life.

We live in bodies that are corruptible—sickness, disease, and even the aging process, moves us toward death. But death itself gives way to victory when the lights of glory appear and we see our Savior and Lord face-to-face.

Mom walked into paradise, has seen Jesus, and family and friends who have gone on before her. I wonder what she did first? Who else has she met? Paul? Timothy? Abraham? John? Isaac? Don’t you want to talk to Joseph and Moses and hear their stories? I know I do! What a time we will have. I’m just a little jealous that Mom and Dad and Bob are already there. Save me a seat.

“We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love each other. Anyone who does not love remains in death.”

‭‭1 John‬ ‭3:14‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Lord Jesus, thank you for your promise of heaven that is so rich and pure, yet so simple. We praise you today and lift you high. We want to worship you with our thoughts and actions and we want to praise you with our words and songs. What a wonderful God you are who transforms us from death to life. Help us to concentrate not so much on things of this world, but to look to things above. Comfort us in our sorrow and bless us in our attempt as we work to be more like you. We love you Lord with all that we are. You are God. Amen and amen.

Love you dear one,

Pam
