August 3–The Word of God

It’s the weekend. I hope you have time to relax a bit and make time to join with fellow believers to worship our God and to study from the Word. I read last week that Bible knowledge among church-going Christians is at an all time low. The people of God are not reading The words He gave us over the course of 1,500 years that although have several. authors and personalities, have a common theme, are verifiable and prophetic. The word that He has protected for integrity and accuracy throughout time, and we just seem to take it for granted.

When God called Joshua to lead the people into the promised land, one thing He impressed on Joshua was to make sure the people cherished the Book of the Law (all of the Bible they had at that time). He told them to recite it, day and night and to obey it.

God also knew Joshua would have a lot of battles ahead of him to conquer the land and that Joshua would have to be the bold, assured and tough leader. So much so that God told him “Be strong and courageous” three times. Those were the two things most important to our God as they entered the land promised so long ago—Know the words of God and don’t be afraid. There is a message there for us.

“Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.””

‭‭Joshua‬ ‭1:8-9‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“Read and recite my words, be strong and courageous and you have nothing to worry about—I’m always going to be with you.” If God told us that directly, do you think we would believe Him enough to do it? Because He does tell all of us that directly and yet, we are the most uneducated Christens in a couple of thousand years. How did we get here? I don’t know about you, but I am determined to not lose the blessings and promises of God because I’m too lazy or disinterested to read and study His word.

Gracie is on vacation this week with her family and she sent me a picture of a Christmas t-shirt and said it was from a store that has Christmas all year. I told her she still has 5 months to go, but I’m wondering if we could get a jump on our resolutions and commit to daily study of Gods word—the very words of God that He was adamant about.

Dear Lord thank you for the Bible and your preservation of it over time. How amazing is is that the very first books in our Bible are the same scriptures you told Joshua to make sure the Israelites didn’t forget. You are an amazing God. Help us Lord to develop that same love and respect for your words. Teach us to hide it in our hearts, minds and souls and to understand how very precious it is. Bless us this day Lord and surround us with your protection. Thank you for your mercy and your grace that keeps us and for your love that sustains us. We love you and praise you Lord. Hallelujah for the Word. Amen and amen.

Love you dear one,

Pam
