July 16-We Shall See Him

Happy Tuesday! I had a great start to my week. I was able to visit with girlfriends from high school that I haven’t seen but a few times over the years. It’s seems funny to look at 62-year old women and see 17-year old girls, but that’s exactly what I see—how they look like to me. Its not that I don’t know the wrinkles are there, but they’re just irrelevant. It’s comforting some how to see through the passage of time. It must be similar to how God sees us—He just looks to the future rather than the past. He knows about the flaws and the imperfections, but when He looks at us, He sees what we are going to be—like Jesus.

“Dear friends, we are already God’s children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is. And all who have this eager expectation will keep themselves pure, just as he is pure.” 1 John‬ ‭3:2-3‬ ‭NLT‬‬

I love that we are told we will be made complete through Jesus Christ, even though we may not know exactly what that means. John stresses that if we truly believe this will happen, that if we want to keep this hope, we will learn to trust Him more fully and maintain purity.

When times are tough, we like to think about the future—“it I’ll be better soon”. Whether is a stubbed tie or a tragic life event or something in between, time does heal. Jesus knee that. When times weren’t great (and getting ready to be much worse), he took the disciples up on Mount Hermon so they could see His partial glory. As amazing as it must have been, it would have to have been partially obscured in order to enable the disciples to bear the sight, because they were not then “like him.” But someday, all of life will be better and we shall be like him and we shall see him as he is - in all the splendor of his infinite majesty.

Lord God Almighty, thank you for the glimpses of the past and of the future. You are the God who is, who was and is to come. Praise you for your timelessness—that you aren’t bound by the constraints of hours and years. We eagerly await for the moment to see you as you are and when we are set free from time. Today we ask that you would cradle our friends and family suffering from disease and illness. Let them feel your hand of mercy and your goodness. Bless us, surround us this day and teach us to be more like you. Help our unbelief and strengthen our resolve. We love you Lord and we lift you high. Amen and amen.

Love you dear one,

Pam
