May 8 — The Joy of the Word

Happy Wednesday! It’s mid week and I spend some time with my 7-month old grandson last night. His giggles just bring pure joy to my heart and I couldn’t help but think about the Psalms 127: “Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him. Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior’s hands. How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them!” Psalms‬ ‭127:3-5‬ ‭NLT‬‬

What joy children bring! God also promises us that His Word will bring us joy. His principles light the way through this dark world and carve a clean path through this tangled maze of life. That in itself is great cause for joy.

“The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart” (Psalm 19:8a, NKJV).

If you read Monday, you remember that the Word converts, Yesterday, it made us wise and today, it brings joy, causing our hearts to sing. How great is our God and His Word—we can be converted, wise and joyous.

Never do we ever have so much joy in this world as when we are living in conformity to God’s Word. Never. Like an engine firing on all cylinders; a deer running at full speed; or a beautiful song with soft, perfect harmony . . . when you’re doing the things that God created you to do and told you to do in His Word, your life will begin to overflow with unequaled joy.

This joy that comes to our hearts can’t be experienced any other way than by rightly dividing the Word of Truth. Jeremiah 15:16 says, “Your words were found, and I ate them, and your words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart” Jeremiah 15:16 ESV.

Lord God thank you for your Word and the joy it brings. Help us Father to be in it more and like Jeremiah, for it to become the delight of our hearts. We pray that we would give sufficient time and attention to your Truth and that we would feel the joy that comes from that. Your Word overwhelms us with the story of you—you are amazing and we worship only our most worthy God. Thank you for our salvation and the opportunities you give us every morning with new promises to begin afresh. We love you Lord for you are holy and so good to us who are not. In the name of Jesus we come. Amen and amen.

Love you dear friend,

Pam
