May 25 - Strong

It’s the weekend and time to gather with fellow believers and worship the Lord our God. I watched a little bit of a show the other night called “Tyrant” about a Middle Eastern ruler of a Moslem country. This man was the president and a true tyrant, a bully. Obviously, the bad guy and someone Captain America would stand up to. He seemed to symbolize the bully and tyrant we face every day.

But alas, I’m not the Captain. Nor am I particularly strong—I couldn’t tear open a fed ex package the other day. I don’t have a six pack or “guns”, I don’t like pain and I steer away from any sort of confrontation. You could probably call me a wimp, a sissy. But according to scripture, I’ve been made more that Batman (or Superman or Aquaman). I’ve been made more than the Tyrant of Tyrants in this world. I’ve been made an overcomer in this life.

“What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?...Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?...No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:31, 35, 37-39‬ ‭NIV‬‬

It's so hard to believe isn't it? But it's right there in the flawless Word of God.

As believers, the all-conquering power that raised Christ from the dead is alive in us. Jesus fought and won our redemption at the cross, silencing every condemning voice - even our own at times. Satan lies were crushed beneath His feet.

With our God "nothing is impossible and every chain is breakable.” With Christ we can overcome temptation, shine light into hopeless places, and speak life to a dying world. In Jesus' name, timid and quiet prayers shake nations and topple kingdoms, and fumbling attempts at evangelism strike fear in the hearts of demons. Unlikely as it may seem, we are more than conquerors—and we don’t even need a mask.

Lord Jesus thank you for taking a wimp like me and building an overcomer. As we read these verses, we realize that we are strong because of your great love—a love so great nothing can keep it from us. Please help us to believe that and live as though we are overcomers regardless of what the tyrant throws our way. Thank you for showering that great love that transcended the grave all over us. How blessed and how fortunate we are just to walk with you. It humbles us. Praise you Jehovah, our Shield and Defender. Amen and amen.

Love you dear one,

Pam
