May 20–The Vine

Good Monday! I hope you had a wonderful weekend and you were able to worship the Lord in Spirit and in truth at some point and were able to spend time with other believers. It’s amazing how it impacts our spiritual strength when we regularly connect with fellow believers.

I was doing planting a few flowers yesterday and I couldn’t help but think about the root systems and how they connect the plant to the earth. My beds have the black barrier on the ground with a layer of rock on top. So if I want to plant something, I have to move rock and cut a hole in the barrier to dig a hole. The barrier serves to only allow the good plants to grow—the ones we have cultivated for that spot.

Before, we were separated from Christ by the barrier of sin, but when we came to Him, He cut through that barrier and make a good place for us so that we could be connected to Him. And He promises us that connection would be constant.

““Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.”

‭‭John‬ ‭15:5‬ ‭NLT

Jesus’ used a familiar example to explain that He was the source of life for us. Separated from Him, we can do nothing and we really don’t produce anything of substance. When Jesus talked about the vine branches, He was tying us together much close than He had with the previous examples of sheep to the shepherd or child to a father. A branch must be constantly connected and definitely cannot survive cutoff from the vine—just as we cannot survive cut off from Christ.

Jesus Savior, thank you for being the vine to which we are attached. And thank you for attaching us to you constantly—you never let go, through the calm and through the storm, you hold on to us. Because you cut through the barrier, we never need fear evil—you are with us. What a Savior you are! We praise you and lift you high today. Your great grace made the way for us and because of it, we have peace. You are the Alpha and the Omega. Amen and amen.

Love you dear friend,

Pam
