May 17–Peace

It’s Friday and summer is just around the corner. Graduations, end of school parties, teachers counting down the days all signal that summer is almost here. My daughter (the high school teacher) has lamented that she’s sure her students haven’t retained anything this last month. That’s what Jesus said about his disciples the night he was arrested—they weren’t retaining much of anything.

“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

‭‭John‬ ‭14:26-27‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Jesus was basically saying that “You won’t remember all these things I’m telling you but the Spirit will remind you later.” How great was that? That same Spirit that is going to fill them in the book of Acts will remind them of everything their Master told them.

On a night when there should not have been any room for peace—the night Jesus knew He would be betrayed, arrested, tried and beaten...the night leading to his murder—he was giving his disciples peace. The peace “the world doesn’t understand.” And Jesus gives us that very same peace. Peace that when our world has fallen apart and we don’t know up from down, we can sill be sure that God is God and He has it all under control. Peace that keeps us from fear and distress and a peace to know this place is not our destination.

Jesus Savior, thank you for your peace. The peace that the world doesn’t understand nor can the world take away. Thank you for the grace that covers us when we fail, or when we forget. We love you Lord and we worship you this day. We pray for peace for those we know who are not well physically and for those who need emotional healing. You are the Alpha and the Omega and everything in between—you are All to us. Amen and amen.

Love you dear one,

Pam
