April 5–He’s in the Waiting

Happy Friday to you. I was talking yesterday to someone who has several guns and they were thinking of getting another one or ten. “When times get tough, it will be important to have them!” I suppose. I guess I better hope I’m with someone with a gun when bad times come since I don’t have one! But when will the bad times come?

In Mark 14 the disciples asked Jesus the same question after He told them the temple was going to be destroyed. The temple—the center of existence for a Jew, both spiritually and emotionally. As far as they were concerned, it was the end of the world as they knew it.

“When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come...You must be on your guard. You will be handed over to the local councils and flogged in the synagogues. On account of me you will stand before governors and kings as witnesses to them...Whenever you are arrested and brought to trial, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Just say whatever is given you at the time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit...Everyone will hate you because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved...At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘Look, there he is!’ do not believe it...So be on your guard; I have told you everything ahead of time...At that time people will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory.”

‭‭Mark‬ ‭13:7, 9, 11, 13, 21, 23, 26‬

Strangely enough, Jesus is trying to encourage them. He is trying to tell His disciples (and us) that when times get tough, we don’t have too worry and we need to stand strong, because He is still on the throne and He will keep His promise to us. He is coming back to claim His own. It seems pretty clear here that Jesús is much more concerned with us becoming something than us avoiding something. He wants us to be the Ready Servant—to be awake, be aware, and be busy with the calling He has put on our lives. There is absolutely nothing He has called us to do that He has not equipped us to do. He is able and He is perfect. It’s the world around us that simply isn’t.

Jesus Savior we believe you are coming again with great power and glory for your bride, the church. We believe you have called us to be faithful and to be ready and to be busy with the calling you have placed on our lives. We long for your presence Lord and to see you face to face. Until that day, we pray you find us as your Ready Servants, standing strong in a broken world. We know that you are never failing, you are in the waiting and in that, we will take our courage. Praise you O great Jehovah. Our soul sings praises because you have already finished what you’ve begun. Amen and amen.

Love you dear one,

Pam
