April 2

Happy Tuesday to you. Yesterday was Casey’s birthday. As she likes to say she was 29 (again) and a great looking 29 I might add. Casey has some gifts that I consider amazing. She has spacial awareness like no one I’ve ever known—she can look at something and tell you almost exactly the size hole or shelf or cabinet you need for it (she rocks Tetris). She has a great eye for what works and she has an amazing sense of style for putting pieces together and she can find her way to just about anywhere. But no mater how smart or gifted she may be, Casey cannot save herself or find her own way to heaven. No matter how gifted she is, without her Savior, she is lost.

“The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God. As the Scriptures say, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and discard the intelligence of the intelligent.” So where does this leave the philosophers, the scholars, and the world’s brilliant debaters? God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish...So when we preach that Christ was crucified, the Jews are offended and the Gentiles say it’s all nonsense. But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.”

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭1:18-20, 23-24 NLT‬‬

Christ is the power and wisdom of God, but to those headed to destruction it is foolishness. The wisdom of the wise and the intelligence of the intelligent means nothing without the message of the cross. It’s good for us to study and to keep learning but all the wisdom and knowledge we accumulate will never be enough to begin to understand the ways of God or to grasp His power. But for those of us who have been called to serve the Almighty, as Paul says, Christ IS the power and wisdom.

Father of power and wisdom, on you alone we stand. We thank you for knowledge and wisdom but we know is is not those things by which we are saved or called to you—it is only by your grace through faith that brings us to the throne. We study hard so we can present ourselves to You and receive your approval. We want to be good workers who are ashamed correctly explain the word of truth. Be the breath in our lungs so we pour out praise to you only Jesus. Amen and amen.

Love you dear friend,

Pam
