March 18–Hiding?

Happy Monday! It’s the start of a new week and God has great things in store for you. What ever you do, stand and be ready to take them on—don’t go hide in the supply closet like the first king of Israel. I was reading about that yesterday. I had forgotten what a coward Saul was when he was first anointed as the King. But when I read the story this time with fresh eyes, instead of laughing at Saul, I wondered how many times over the years have I tried to hide behind the extra Tide?

In I Samuel when the people were clamoring for a king, God found them one. Then, when he figured out what God was asking of him he was so scared, he ran and hid.

“So they inquired further of the Lord, “Has the man come here yet?” And the Lord said, “Yes, he has hidden himself among the supplies.” They ran and brought him out, and as he stood among the people he was a head taller than any of the others. Samuel said to all the people, “Do you see the man the Lord has chosen? There is no one like him among all the people.” Then the people shouted, “Long live the king!””

‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭10:22-24‬ ‭NIV‬‬

What a sad let-down for the people. Trumpets blasting and they are all excited for their very first king and no one shows up! Poor Saul was like Pam shaking like a little girl by the sacks of grain, or salt or what ever were the biggest. He had considered the job of fighting Israel’s enemies, the expectations of the people and sized up his own character and realized he wasn’t up to the task.

What he didn’t do—what we should always remember to do when we are at the end of our wisdom, courage, strength, and fortitude—is call upon the name of the Lord our God who has endless supplies. We lay our issues at His feet along with our shortcomings and let Him work through us. When we do, we can experience the peace that lets us keep from hiding under the bed and walk straight into the purpose God has for our lives. We serve God best when we understand our weakness and turn to Him for His power and wisdom and strength. (With a little experience comes wisdom? We can certainly hope, right?)

Our Father who is strong when we are weak, we praise you for keeping us out of the hiding places and in the light where we can work for you. You are the giver of wisdom and power when we realize our resources are limited and when we know we don’t have enough to do the job. Thank you for not only having our backs, but for surrounding us with your grace and mercy and power to fulfill your purpose in us. We love you and worship you this day. Hallelujah to the Lamb that was slain for our salvation. Amen and amen.

Love you dear one,

Pam
