Happy Wednesday. Ive been asked how to know God’s will or in trying to make a life choice, can we determine the will of God. I think so many times we just want a warm and fuzzy feeling to fill us as we decide, but those feelings are fickle. Most of the time if we make decisions based on feelings, we make the ones we just want to make and not necessarily the ones that line up with the Word of God—the only true test.

“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Colossians‬ ‭3:15-17‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Many believers look for a sense of peace as a sign to help them determine God’s will in their life. However, a peaceful feeling may not be enough evidence to verify that a person’s decisions line up with the Lord’s plans. (That was a song by the Eagles) It’s always wise to ask ourselves, Whose peace are we experiencing? Sometimes our sense of tranquility can be attributed to our own desire about a choice we’ve made. In these verses Paul talks about letting “the peace of Christ rule in your hearts”. This kind of harmony originates from Jesus and is the umpire that determines whether our decisions fit with God’s will. So to have God’s peace about a matter means our decision must be aligned with His will. The only way to determine this is by comparing our thoughts and choices with His Word. Are we thinking the same way He does? Did we make our decision using scriptural principles or our own human understanding?

One of the reasons we often make choices without the guidance of Scripture is because we want a quicker method for finding an answer. The Lord doesn’t just pour His thoughts into our brain without our cooperation. He molds us gradually, day by day, as we read His Word and let its truths sink into our mind.

Building steadily over time is the only way to internalize a foundation of God’s truth. With His instructions as our basis, we can make decisions with confidence, knowing we are following His will. Then we will have a sense of oneness with the Lord, and His peace will guard our way.

Oh Jesus, thank you for supplying your peace as we journey through this life. It is so reassuring that your peace will always be reaffirmed by your Word and we can always test it. Lord grant us insight into living life that is ruled by your peace. Teach us to dwell deeply in your message. And help us to do everything we do in your holy name. We praise you and worship you for you are the Almighty King of the Universe. We ask for a joyful heart and a glad spirit this day. We love you Lord. Amen and amen.

Love you dear one,

Pam
