January 4–Earnest, Fervent Prayer

Happy Friday! Yesterday a friend of mine in his 40s was having a heart procedure and many of us were calling out to the Father and earnestly praying for him. He had an attack and found out he had big blockages that were definitely life threatening. One doctor made the statement “Things just worked out so we could save his life.” We know the power is in prayer, not in chance. Earnest, fervent prayers by the children of God make a difference.

“Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven. Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.”

‭‭James‬ ‭5:15-16‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Desperate, earnest prayers make a difference—they hold great power. When we are in that place—the place where we know there is no one else to turn to—God is there and He honors our crying out to Him. When we are in those hard places where we are desperate, no one to call who can completely fix it (no friend, pastor, lawyer, doctor, family member) we feel alone and vulnerable in our world. It’s a scary place to be. But, when we approach the Throne of Grace because we are literally begging God to intervene, He will honor it. Often with a direct answer but many times He answers in ways we would never have expected. God is always good and He will bring us comfort in our darkest times. He promises to meet all our needs according to His riches—that is a promise to stand on.

Dear Father, King of Kings and Lord of lords, we bow before you and lay our praise at your feet. Every breath we breathe is a gift from you—we need you for everything in our lives. You ask that we come to you as we are are-spiritually wretched, pitiful, poor, and blind so we will know the truth—we need a Savior. We know when we pray, we are coming to the King, the Almighty One of the Universe who has unparalleled power and grace; your resources have no limits. We love you Lord and we ask you for blessings this day and we give you thanks for them before you give them because we can trust you. Amen and amen.

Love you dear friend,

Pam
