January 2–Almost Over?

Happy Wednesday to you. I hope you have had a wonderful holiday season. Has anyone been trying to cram every minute of the bowl games in? All of us football fans are a little conflicted during this season—we love all the bowl game matchups, but we know football is nearly over! I wonder if we would show the same kind of fervor if we knew time was about over. Would we be studying and praying and sharing with great urgency? Jesus tells us that the time for that is now. .

““And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.””

‭‭Luke‬ ‭21:25-28‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“In the same way, when you see all these things taking place, you can know that the Kingdom of God is near...Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear. “Watch out! Don’t let your hearts be dulled by carousing and drunkenness, and by the worries of this life. Don’t let that day catch you unaware, like a trap. For that day will come upon everyone living on the earth. Keep alert at all times.”” Luke‬ ‭21:31, 33-35NLT‬‬

Don’t be dulled by the worries of this life. Mercy, but that says buckets to us, doesn’t it? With all of the decisions we have to make from when to get up to when to go back to bed, we can get stressed over emotional as well as practical choices. But truly, the only choices that change life are our moral and spiritual choices. These are the choices that determine our character and how we live our lives and these are the choices that should demand our priority as well as our urgency. These choices determine our eternity.

Dear Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for your word that let us know our redemption is near. Help us to live each day with the urgency these last days demand. Open our eyes to the things of this life that steals our focus and keeps us from “lookin up.” Show us your truth and let us see the enemy’s lies for what they are—distractions from what you’d have us doing. You are the Almighty, the Lion of Judah and God of the Angel armies and you go before us, fight our battles for us and protect us with your strong hand. We worship and adore you. You alone are worthy of our praise. Amen and amen.

Love you dear one,

Pam
