January 29–What at you expecting?

Happy Tuesday. I hope you had a good Monday and to start the week off right, spent some time with God and His Word.

Yesterday I had partners for my mall walk. I had picked up kids after school and we went to eat before the mile. The food court has several choices but we usually pick Chick-fil-A. Ozzie however was wanting pepperoni pizza. He saw a pizza sign at the bar-b-cue place and was all about that. When it came, he just kept looking at it. Then he looked at me and said “This is not what I expected.”

As he was explaining to me what he thought it should have been, I heard the small still voice of God whispering in my ear “He sounds like you.” And isn’t that exactly how it is? We pray and pray for answers and when they come, we might not even realize it’s the answer because it wasn’t what we expected. We have a mental picture of how we want God to answer (of how our pizza should be) and when it’s different, we think “That can’t be the answer!” But God is God and He does know the right way—the way that is best for us.

Several times Jesus told his disciples and his followers that He was going to die. But they had visions that He would be an earthly King who would overthrow the Romans and give them back their freedom. They were so sure that they missed what He kept telling them. Only Mary really listened and broke the alabaster box of perfume on His head to prepare Him for the grave. She sat at the feet of Jesus and not only heard Him, but truly believed Him

“While he was eating, a woman came in with a beautiful alabaster jar of expensive perfume and poured it over his head...But Jesus, aware of this, replied, “Why criticize this woman for doing such a good thing to me?...She has poured this perfume on me to prepare my body for burial. I tell you the truth, wherever the Good News is preached throughout the world, this woman’s deed will be remembered and discussed.”” Matthew‬ ‭26:7, 10, 12-13‬ ‭NLT‬‬

God of the Angel Armies, thank you for hearing our prayer. Help us God to really listen to you and to be ever mindful that our ideas of how you should interviene may not be your way. We pray we would keep our eyes so focused on you that when the answer comes, we recognize it and give you praise for hearing and responding to our prayer. And when the unexpected comes, help us to rejoice in it. We worship you Lord for you are our God and King. Remind us of the answers we have been given and let us share those as a testimony to your great love whenever we can. Thank you for saving us and covering us with your marvelous grace. Amen and amen.

Love you dear friend,

Pam
