January 1–New Year, New Habits

Happy New Year to you! Are you fixing black eyed peas? (Not me!) But, what are your plans for 2019? Have you made resolutions to do something different this year? You know the old axiom, “If you keep doing what your doing, you’ll keep getting what your getting” tells us that if we want to be more, we have to change something. One thing I’m committed to this year is a specific time each morning to pray. I function much better on routine, but for some reason, I have difficulty keeping a specific time in the morning to pray. There is something very special and very powerful that happens when we establish our prayer time. If we keep a regular rhythm, it becomes our spiritual heartbeat.

“Listen to my voice in the morning, Lord. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭5:3‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray.”

‭‭Mark‬ ‭1:35‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Even though we know that it’s important to start the day with a specific, devoted prayer time, we don’t always spend the time in prayer as we should in the mornings. Its easy to let other things and obligations crowd in. However, when we spend the first minutes of each morning, my day always goes better. It sets the pattern for how I’m going to approach everything throughout the day, we’re able to withstand Satan’s advances, to make the right choices and have multiple conversations with the Lord as we go through the day.

El Shaddai, God most faithful, thank you for your convicting grace. Teach us Lord to pray and to pray at an appointed time. You are the God who hears and we praise you that you hear us at any time, regardless of our circumstances. We know morning prayer was important to Jesus when He lived as a man and we want to pattern our lives after Him. Thank you for the lessons you teach us when neglect our prayer lives and forgive our arrogance thinking we can get through the day without time with you. We want to know the joy, the strength, the confidence, the peace and the knowledge that comes from meeting with you every day. We love you Lord and we worship at your feet. Amen and amen.

Love you dear one,

Pam
