January 16–New Body

Happy Wednesday and how are you doing? Yesterday morning my 91-yr old mom had a full-blown seizure. I spent the day at the hospital with her and her wonderful, caring healthcare professionals. Since mom has Alzheimer’s, she doesn’t understand the “why” of anything so when they were starting her IV, she was beside herself. Afterwards, she pointed her finger and called one of the nurses a bad name! I wouldn’t have even thought my mom knew that word.

But in truth, most of my mom, who she was, is gone. Her memories, her ability to know people and talk with them, to think about life, just isn’t there. It is a part of mortality that as time goes by, these bodies of ours begin to fade away and less of who we are remains. Sometimes it’s the mind, sometimes it’s the body and sometimes, it’s both that fails us. We simply were not meant to live forever. These tents where our souls reside get ragged and torn and begin to dissolve. But God has promised us a new body that is incorruptible; my mom will get a new one and with that, her mind will return. What a glorious promise the Lord Jesus gives us.

“We grow weary in our present bodies, and we long to put on our heavenly bodies like new clothing. For we will put on heavenly bodies; we will not be spirits without bodies. While we live in these earthly bodies, we groan and sigh, but it’s not that we want to die and get rid of these bodies that clothe us. Rather, we want to put on our new bodies so that these dying bodies will be swallowed up by life. God himself has prepared us for this, and as a guarantee he has given us his Holy Spirit.” 2 Corinthians‬ ‭5:2-5‬ ‭NLT‬‬

God himself is preparing a place when we have new bodies without death or sorrow or crying or pain or Alzheimer’s or cancer or heart disease or intestinal problems, and so on. Hallelujah these things will all be gone.

Dear Lord of Heaven, we thank you and praise you for you great love that sets our souls free of these earthly vessels. We ask for your hand of mercy on those who are sick and hurting and we pray for strength for their caregivers and family. You alone hold the power to break us free of the physical so that we might truly live. You are our Source and Sustainer of life. How could we ever think that we don’t need you? You are the breath in our lungs and we pour out our praise to you only Jesus. We magnify your holy name. For your Glory, Amen and amen.

Love you dear one,

Pam
