December 8–The God of the Impossible

It’s  the weekend and I am looking forward to being in worship service with fellow believers! Especially during this time of the year, it’s important to remember why we celebrate and to remember and fully understand the fact that “nothing is impossible with God.”

“In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth to a virgin engaged to be married to a man descended from David. His name was Joseph, and the virgin’s name, Mary. Upon entering, Gabriel greeted her: Good morning! You’re beautiful with God’s beauty, Beautiful inside and out! God be with you...She was thoroughly shaken, wondering what was behind a greeting like that. But the angel assured her, “Mary, you have nothing to fear. God has a surprise for you: You will become pregnant and give birth to a son and call his name Jesus. He will be great, be called ‘Son of the Highest.’...

Mary said to the angel, “But how? I’ve never slept with a man.” The angel answered, The Holy Spirit will come upon you, the power of the Highest hover over you; Therefore, the child you bring to birth will be called Holy, Son of God. “And did you know that your cousin Elizabeth conceived a son, old as she is? Everyone called her barren, and here she is six months pregnant! Nothing, you see, is impossible with God.””

‭‭Luke‬ ‭1:26-38‬ ‭MSG‬‬

Christmas is the time to focus on the greatness of God and not on ourselves. It’s easy during this time of giving and receiving to focus on what we want or think we deserve or even on what we are buying. But if we get caught up in that trap, we have missed the lesson that the lives of Mary and Elizabeth teach us.

Mary learned, as we all must, that Christmas is not about me. Christmas is about dying to self, to selfishness and to my plans. It is about the intervention of God into our ordinary lives; it is about Christ being born into our hearts to forgive failures. It is about Christ revealing Himself in me and to me. And that my friend, is something to celebrate!

Dear God of Mary, Thank you Lord for coming to earth and making yourself accessible to all of us if we simply choose to put our faith in you. We praise you for all that you are and we thank you for the encouraging stories we have in your word of you doing the impossible. We thank you for the example of Mary who fully trusted in you and help us like Mary, to make choices that strengthen our faith. We pray that you would make our faith contagious. We love you Lord. Amen and amen.

Love you dear one,

Pam
