November 3-Peace

It’s the weekend! The weather where I am is decidedly moving colder and we are in the holiday season. We change out time this Sunday and that means we are not saving daylight because the days are short and it’s cold. Christmas movies abound and we are all thinking about Thanksgiving menus. It can be one of those times where we just have this low grade anxiousness for the next couple of months. I’m having a little procedure in 9 days and that makes me even more anxious. 


I often think that unless I have something significant, I shouldn’t bother God with it. It’s just a silly little thing that is just irritating me and I really probably ought to be able to handle it on my own. But alas...add up all those little things that I try to ignore and I’m anxious! Even though, yes, I know, there are no situations, worries or concerns that we shouldn’t take to God, I still end up anxious before I remember to remind myself of what Paul told the Philippians. 


“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4:6-7‬ ‭NIV‬‬


The result of taking our every large and small concern to God is a peace that goes beyond all human understanding—even our own understanding. Our hearts and our minds will surely be guarded by the very one who saves us. What a perfect place to be, right? In these times of shot days and long nights it it the place my soul Kong’s to be. And the next verse is one of my favorites. 


“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4:8‬ ‭NIV‬‬


If it is good, then think about it. Otherwise? Let it go. I’m gonna say that one more time. Think on the good and pure and excellent things. If it’s not? LET IT GO because it will steal your peace. 


Dear Lord thank you for guarding my heart and my mind. Help me Father to think of the good things and to remember to turn every worry—no matter how big or how small—over to you. Your peace is all we long for and all we need. You are so good to us and ask so little when you give so very much. Bless those who are hurting this weekend, draw them closer to you Lord so they might feel your holy presence. Praise you Father, you are the Almighty God, our Defender and Comforter. Amen and amen.
