November 28–Eyes on Jesus

Happy Wednesday to you. One of my very favorite passages in scripture is Hebrews 12:1-3, the verses directly after the hall of faith chapter.

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”

And every time I read through it, something different jumps out at me. Yesterday, When I was reading in Hebrews about faith, I caught the “...fixing our eyes on Jesus...” phrase. When things get tough or we face temptations or we struggle with letting the world influence us, if we can only “fix our eyes” on the one who perfects our faith, we can overcome whatever situation we find ourselves.

In Matthew, Jesus tells us

““Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6:19-21‬ ‭NIV‬

When we have a treasure, we find our eyes there. I’ve always loved this season and I love my house dressed for Christmas. I love the lights, the candles, all the red ribbon and so on. As soon as dark hits, I turn on the tree lights and candles and I just like to sit and look. In the same way, if we love our Savior, we just want to turn our eyes to Him and just look. And as the old song says “...and the things of this earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.” Keeping our eyes on Jesus does indeed keep us from losing heart and growing weary in the faith.

Lord help us to fix our eyes on you as we run this race called life. We want to see you, in your fullness and spend time experiencing your goodness and light. You alone are worthy of our worship. You are the giver of life and the author of our salvation and hope. We love you and ask for blessing on those who are sick, strength for their caregivers, and wisdom for their doctors and nurses. Amen and amen.

Love you dear one,

Pam
