November 25-The Church is Alive

It’s the Weekend and the countdown to Christmas is on. I saw a shirt the other day that said “All I want to do is drink hot chocolate and watch Christmas movies!” And I almost bought it because something about this time of the year makes us want to just be big homebodies—hang the garland, make a cup of tea and be content with good will to all.

Yesterday was sort of a dreary day with intermittent rain and colder than expected. I had my Christmas tree lights on and candles going when I thought of this verse written by the prophet Isaiah.

“No longer will you need the sun to shine by day, nor the moon to give its light by night, for the Lord your God will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory. Your sun will never set; your moon will not go down. For the Lord will be your everlasting light. Your days of mourning will come to an end.”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭60:19-20‬ ‭NLT‬‬

As a Christian, no matter how dreary or rainy it seems and how much we might try to make our own flickering “light” we never really need worry. Our Light will always be shining and never dim.Since our God operates in eternity (and we are still caught in time), we take His promise here on faith that there will never be total darkness for us - for the church. Just as when Elijah cried to God that “I am the only one left that serves you...”, God basically told him “No. there are 7,000 others I’ve preserved.” We have to remember even when it’s seems almost dark, there are others out there reflecting God’s light. I believe He’s telling us here, there will always be a church! There will always be those who are true to the word of God, who chose to follow Him, reflecting Him and be counted as His.

God has always had a people and no matter what manner of ruler or evilness tried to eradicate it from the face of the earth, it still stands. God has always had a people. The church has been ridiculed and treated as simpletons believing fairy tales. It’s been discouraged, misrepresented, used for financial gain and scorned, but remember this one thing, God has always had a people. And the church will triumph.

The days of mourning are about to end and turn to great glory and happiness in the church. No friend of God and of the happiness of man can think of that time without praying sincerely and fervently that it may soon come, when the Son of righteousness, in the fullness of His glory, shall ascend to our view, and stand there without one obscuring cloud when the heavens open and pour out splendor of the noontide beams all over a darkened world.

Dear Jesus, thank you for your holy light and that we can rest in your promise. We praise you and worship you and count it all joy to be named as your church! Open the floodgates of heaven and let it pour over us. Come quickly Lord Jesus, we pray.

Love you dear one,

Pam
