November 19-Our Calling

Happy Monday to you! I hope you had a great weekend and are ready for a new week of opportunities to share the love of Christ. This past week, my sister has stayed with me and has been the hands and feet of God caring for me. Nothing was too small or too large for her to handle. She has in short been sent from the Father to care for me and as my family can tell you, I’m not a great patient, but some people simply have the gift of care taking for others.

The nurses and workers who take care of my mom are perfect examples of that type of caring. My mom doesn’t remember who they are or how much they have to do for her, but even with her advanced dementia, she feels and responds to the loving care they provide for her. It is certainly a gift and a calling.

God calls us all. He has provided us with different gifts and talents because our calls are different. Some have been called to be prayer warriors—I believe they have been truly blessed with gifts to answer that call where they can pray for hours at any hour day or night. Others are called to teach, to counsel, to speak, to be a friend to the friendless. It’s a long list of workers the Father needs, but we all are called and equipped for our specific piece of His work.

“God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.”

‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭4:10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

And not only are we called to a specific work, we have all been called to general good works— to be His children, His people, to serve, to share the Good News, to assemble together, to live as He would have us, holy and acceptable.

“He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace.” 2 Timothy‬ ‭1:9‬a NIV‬‬

And maybe the most comforting thing about our callings, general and specific is that they are given. “For God’s gifts and his call can never be withdrawn.” Romans‬ ‭11:29‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Can you just say “Amen” out loud to that?

Dear God, thank you for our gifts and our talents that you have given through your grace and placed in us. Help us to never neglect our calling and to always be ready to serve others. The fact that you have a plan for each of us and that you know it and want only the best for us is such a comfort. Help us to teach the children the most important thing is to seek the calling of God when they make life choices. We love you and worship you for you alone are worthy. Holy holy holy is Jehovah, our great King. Amen and amen.

Love you dear friend,

Pam
