October 30-Directed Steps

Good Tuesday morning and happy birthday Ozzie! It’s a great day to be turning 8, wouldn’t you say?

Yesterday I was talking to my friend Paula about buying trip insurance for our trip next June to Jerusalem “just in case”. We have every intention of going, Lord willing, but as both of us are all too familiar with, life doesn’t always go as we plan. Sometimes, our nicely organized lives turn to chaos.

“Look here, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.” How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.” Otherwise you are boasting about your own pretentious plans, and all such boasting is evil.”

‭‭James‬ ‭4:13-16‬ ‭NLT‬‬

And those of us on the other side of 50 can certainly attest to the fact that our lives are like a vapor—they go very fast and are rarely what we planned for them to be. We truly don’t know know what life may be like tomorrow. All sorts of things cause curves and potholes in our road of life and we have to be able to maneuver those—sometimes we even have to build new roads, but we keep going, following the direction that our Leader takes us.

“We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭16:9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

If we allow the Lord to determine our steps, even when we hit those places where our plans go up on smoke, our steps are directed. Our path is determined and we do go on, one step at a time. It’s amazing that our Savior provides for us in such a way that even though we may not know why, incredibly, we are in just the right place at just the right time. We serve an amazing God.

Dear Lord thank you for directing our paths even when our plans fail us. When life isn’t what we are expecting, thank you Lord that we don’t need insurance for our direction—You never fail us and you never give up on us. You are a big God who always has time for us, and when our plans fail, praise your holy Name, you are there. We love you and we worship you for all the mighty things you have done and for who you are. Thank you for your love, your mercy and your grace. Amen and amen.

Love you dear one,

Pam
