October 23–He is God

Good Tuesday to you and I hope this finds you well and rested. Over the last couple of weeks, I have heard God referred to as “the man upstairs” more than once. That’s one of those things that I think we do to try to humanize God—to make Him more like us. Yet if He’s more like us, have we stripped His power? Have we taken away all the things that we worship and the reason we pray to Him? Just think about what Isiah said when he saw the Lord.

“In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.”...“Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.””

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭6:1-3, 5‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Seraphim, who covered their faces and feet crying “Holy holy holy is the Lord God Almighty” flying around Him whose robes filled the temple! Now, that, my friend is neither of this world nor human-like.

And the psalmist says,

“Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory in the heavens...When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor.”

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭8:1, 3-5‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Even though we are made in His image, we are not on His level—and He surely is not on ours. He is our creator who has made us “ a little lower than the angels.”

As God told Job,

““Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it? On what were its footings set, or who laid its cornerstone— while the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy? “Who shut up the sea behind doors when it burst forth from the womb,Have you ever given orders to the morning, or shown the dawn its place,” Job‬ ‭38:4-8NIV‬‬

‭‭

No, He’s not “a man” He is our God who is Almighty and all powerful and measures the universe with His fingers. He is God, the great I Am.

Dear Father of Lights, thank you for being the God we can turn to when we need more than human strength—when we need a holy God whose robes fill the temple and on whom seraphim cannot look. Help us to remember that you are the great God of the universe who created everything including us-the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. Help us to love you more fully and more exclusively. We praise you today Lord for you alone are worthy. Amen and amen.

Love you friend,

Pam
