October 18

Happy Thursday to you and I hope this has been a good week so far. When my kids were growing up, we had a picture of Jesus with his head thrown back in a big laugh. The kids loved that picture (in fact an unnamed one snuck it out of my house to hang it in her house) but I think it was so beloved because is showed Jesus’ human side so beautifully. Laughing and just enjoying the moment as any of us might do. I love to think that He had a wonderful sense of humor—after all, we are made in His image. He laughed.

And He cried.

“When Mary reached the place where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet and said, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled. “Where have you laid him?” he asked. “Come and see, Lord,” they replied. Jesus wept.”

‭‭John‬ ‭11:32-35‬ ‭NIV‬‬

He cried with Mary and the others who were sad over Lazarus because He was deeply moved. And when you are sad and can’t do much but cry, aren’t you glad to have a Savior who will cry with you? EVEN when He knows the resurrection is coming? He had already told the disciples and Martha He was going to raise Lazarus again, so it wasn’t a last minute thought—he was planning it, but He still cried with them.

And when we think we can’t go on and when we have hit our limit, our Savior is moved to compassion for us. He feels our deep pain, as well as our joy and wants to experience it all with us. Isn’t that a wonderful picture? Jesus laughing with you one day and crying with you the next. He’s a wonderful Savior who simply loves us.

Dear Lord, thank you for your great love and for your compassion for us. You love to share the highs and the lows with us and are present for each and every moment. We are so thankful to know that when things are awful and we feel so all alone, you are there. You are wonderful Lord and we praise you and lift you high for you are the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. Amen and amen.

Love you dear one,

Pam
