September 21–God Made Trees

Happy Friday! I hope your week has been as good as mine—I got two trees in the ground yesterday as well as a few shrubs. I’m pretty much in love with my river birch and my loblolly pine trees. I’m sort of a tree person. As I was shopping for those trees, a song I sang in junior high kept running through my mind. I don’t remember what the name of it was, but it says “I think that I shall never see a poem lovely as a tree”. (My friend Cyndy probably remembers because she had to play it 100 times). But the part that resonated over and over in my head yesterday was “...but only God can make a tree.”

As I looked at all the varieties and colors and shapes of trees, it was hard to ignore that line in my head “only God can make a tree” as I walked through all the isles. Sometimes I think we get busy and take nature for granted. I know I can forget the complexity of nature and the marvelous intricacies of every living thing—even a piece of weed growing up in a crack in the sidewalk is performing photosynthesis at the speed of light, in the presence of light—changing carbon dioxide into oxygen and making it own food in that process. Pretty amazing? Only God. And if a little weed is doing all that, then a tree is a major manufacturing plant for oxygen. Only God.

“The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food.” Genesis‬ ‭2:9a‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness; tremble before him, all the earth...Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them; let all the trees of the forest sing for joy.” Psalm‬ ‭96:9, 12‬ ‭NIV‬‬

He made all kinds of trees grow right out of the ground. Pretty amazing, huh? Isn’t that one of those highlight reels you want to see when you get to Heaven? Don’t you want to see how that happened? Wow.

Father God, you are amazing. All your marvelous works are beyond compare and we stand amazed. Thank you for giving us trees and plants for our enjoyment and for our betterment. We ask for the blessing of your presence today Lord, to feel you near and to know you are beside us. Go before us and surround us and protect us from the enemy. You are a good Father and we are your children. Open our eyes Lord to those around us who are in need and give us the wisdom to be your hands and feet. We love you and worship you this day. Amen and amen.

Love you dear one,

Pam
