July 25-We all have a job

Happy Wednesday to you. I’ve got therapy again this morning and it is working wonders on this finger of mine. I would have never thought it would work right again, but alas with hot wax, electricity and just lots of exercise, it’s getting better every day.

“The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ...Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part...But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it...In fact, some parts of the body that seem weakest and least important are actually the most necessary...while the more honorable parts do not require this special care. So God has put the body together such that extra honor and care are given to those parts that have less dignity...If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts are glad.”

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭12:12, 14, 18, 22, 24, 26‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Isn’t it funny how one part of our body can slow us down? A toe, a finger seemingly insignificant can bring great pain but even after the pain, without the strength, limits out ability to perform tasks we take for granted. With my finger, I’ve had difficulty with a signature, opening water bottles, anything that requires a grip or hand strength. It is amazing how one digit messes things up.

So why was Paul taking so much time to explain all of that to the church in Corinth? “All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it.” 1 Corinthians‬ ‭12:27‬ ‭NLT‬‬ and he continues to spell out all the different jobs of the church. All the jobs are vital and even if you have a very small part, even if you are a finger, you’re pretty important. You are an intricate, vital part that allows the body of Christ to function wholly, completely and serve the purpose for which we were called.

Some teachers, some preachers, some missionaries, some parking lot attendants, some greeters, some smilers, some bathroom cleaners, some finance committee members, some to take care of babies, some to counsel, some to play the violin, and all to share the gospel and to disciple in some way...we all have parts to play, we all have a niche. We all have something we were created to do for the body.

Dear Lord thank you for creating the church to be made up of people just like us, fallible and real, that you have gifted in various ways for your church to go forward. Help us to serve you in the place you have prepared us for and serve you with gladness. We want to be your hands and feet and live lives that exemplify you love and grace. You are the King and you are the great Jehovah Jirah, Lord of all Creation. We praise you Father and we sing to you hallelujah the Lamb has overcome. Amen and amen.

Love you dear one,

Pam
