June 5-Miss Me?

Good Tuesday to you! I hope you had a good Monday. My sister went home yesterday and after being together for so long caring for our mother, it feels a little strange—kind of like when she first got married (she took off then and just left me, a lot a nerve, right?) She warned me she was leaving and I told her it was ok, but it was different after she was actually gone.

Do you think that’s how the disciples felt after Jesus left? He’d been telling them He was leaving, He’d been explaining what was going to happen. He had been trying to prepare them to be on their own, but when it actually happened, they weren’t really ready for it at all. And before the Comforter came, they were truly at a loss.

“Leaving that region, they traveled through Galilee. Jesus didn’t want anyone to know he was there, for he wanted to spend more time with his disciples and teach them. He said to them, “The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of his enemies. He will be killed, but three days later he will rise from the dead.””

‭‭Mark‬ ‭9:30-31‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Have you ever had anyone leave and once they were gone, it surprised you how much you missed their presence? It’s funny isn’t it that as humans how attached we are to each other? We bond and want to spend time in the presence of one another. Even if we aren’t necessarily talking or talking about anything important, we want to touch bases in some way with those we are connected to.

How much more attached should we be to God? I had a friend say that once you’d been at a level of closeness with God, if you ever fell short of that, you didn’t feel right. I think it’s that you miss Him. Just the same way that I’m missing my sister today, if I fall short in my closeness with God, I miss Him. It’s that feeling of “something is not right.” We May not be able to put our finger on it, but when things are off kilter, not quite lined up, maybe it’s because we’ve been neglecting reading the Word, praying, and simply meditating on what God is saying to us today. We miss Him.

Dear Jesus we love you and we are so glad that we don’t have to ever miss you. We can call on you and you can be right here, right now. What an blessed assurance that is for us. You are a good good Father and we are so very loved by you. Thank you for caring for us in such a kind way before we ever took our first breath and we can be assured you will still be caring for us long after we take that final one. Hallelujah to the Lamb. Amen and amen.

Love you dear friend,

Pam
