June 27-Storms of Life

Happy Wednesday! Did it storm on you yesterday? We had thunderstorms around us and my sister and I were in the midst of it and I was driving so she was a little more excited than normal—but for the most part, we skirted the heavy parts.

When the rains come and the thunder crashes and the wind blows so hard (some places around us had 60 mph gusts), I can’t help but think of the Savior in the middle of it all sleeping on a boat. Disciples scared out of their wits (maybe even more than Sissy when I’m driving in the rain), and when they couldn’t stand it one more minute, they wake Him up.

(From this side of history, it’s hilarious that they said “Don’t you care if we all die?” Now they fully believed He was God and capable of saving them, but they thought a storm could kill Him while He was sleeping?)

But then, in the center of the storm, our Jesus stands up and says “Peace! Be still!” And he “rebuked” the wind. “express sharp disapproval or criticism of (someone) because of their behaviour or actions.” He was mad at the wind! And when I see this happening, his voice is loud, and very stern because he’s aggravated. Immediately everything went silent. We are told it went so silent it was scary, an eerie quiet. Quite the scene, huh? And he did it all because He cared for those scared-out-of-their-wits disciples.

“And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, "Peace! Be still!" And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.”

‭‭Mark‬ ‭4:39‬ ‭ESV‬‬

He is a compassionate God. He came to earth because He was moved by His compassionate for us. He is a God who cares about our storms and when it’s to the point we can’t go any more, He’ll say, “Peace. Be still!” He sees our hardships and He responds to them with compassion.

“Jesus saw the huge crowd as he stepped from the boat, and he had compassion on them because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things.”

‭‭Mark‬ ‭6:34‬ ‭NLT‬‬

A God who is good and wise all of the time has compassion on those of us who are good and wise almost none of the time.

“But he said, "What is impossible with man is possible with God."

‭‭Luke‬ ‭18:27‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Dear Lord thank you for doing the impossible‬ for us. When we can’t see a way, you never fail to always make one for us. You are good and you are wise. You are so compassionate to us and care for us with an unfailing, never ending love that knows no bounds. You are the Almighty God and we praise you and sing of your glory. Thank you Father. Amen and amen.

Love you dear one,

Pam
