May 14–He is Glorious

Good Monday morning! I hope you had a great Lord’s Day yesterday—I certainly did. Amazing church service, great times with family and to top it all off, I got to see Michael W Smith last night. The man is still amazing after all these years. He led us in a great time of worship and I don’t know how anyone there could feel like they had not been in the presence of our God.

The sermon I heard yesterday would rank in the top tier of all sermons I’ve ever heard. It was all about the transfiguration of Jesus.

A couple of songs I heard have stuck with me. One was “God of infinite worth, with hands that carved out the ocean, You hold the universe and still run to the broken.” That our God who walked as man and could show Himself as God at any time still chooses not just to help, but To RUN to us when we are broken.

“And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭17:1-2‬ ‭ESV‬‬

His face shown and His clothes became as while as light! Remember another time when that happened? When Moses went up on Mt Sinai to receive the law? Moses didn’t see anything but a tiny part of the back of God and he was changed physically so much that he had to wear a veil afterwards.

Peter, James and John saw the holiness of God incarnate and the immediate reaction of Peter is to build shelters. Which granted at first seems like Peter just being Peter, but there was a reason behind it for him. In the Old Testament, the people had to be protected from the glory of God or they could die (remember the holy of holies?) Here though, when the glory of the Lord appears, the disciples are protected because Jesus IS our protector. He went to the cross so the countenance of God could be a beautiful thing for us, and not a threatening thing. We can still be surrounded by the glory of His presence. That reckless, overwhelming love of God shows us that in all ways, He can be trusted. Amen?

Dear Jesus we just want to say thank you. Thank you for loving us so completely and fully even though we don’t deserve it or earn it or sometimes even recognize it, there is still nothing that can keep you from us. You seek us and find us with that never ending love of yours. We offer the breath we have to sing your praise and these bones to lift you high. You are glorious and you are our God. Amen and amen.

Love you dear one,

Pam
