April 4–The Wind

Happy Wednesday to you. I hope your week is going well. We are having the strangest weather here in Oklahoma. We woke up yesterday to what we thought was going to be a nice day and later in the morning, we heard a loud wind—a really, loud, rushing wind that was almost scary. It dropped our temperature dramatically and they continued to drop all day as the winds blew 20 to 30 mph.

When that crazy wind first started I couldn’t help but think of the day of Pentecost. When Jesus left the disciples, he did not leave them completely alone, but He assured them that a comforter would come and sure enough, in God-like form, He came rushing in filling the whole place with a great wind that didn’t blow and a fire that didn’t burn.

“Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting.”

‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭2:2‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Before, while they had been eating together, Jesus had told them to not leave because this was the place where it would happen. There was just something special about Jerusalem. It was God’s chosen City—the place where He wanted to pour out His power and majesty.

“Once when he was eating with them, he commanded them, “Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you the gift he promised, as I told you before...But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.””

‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭1:4, 8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

This was it. This was what it had all been about. The whole reason that Jesus came so that they would have the power to tell people everywhere and spread the Gospel to the ends of the earth. And sure enough, Jesus had chosen well because they would do it. This indeed changed everything.

So when I hear crazy winds like that, even though I hate being cold, I remind myself of the mighty rushing wind that day in Jerusalem that changed everything. And I praise God for His brilliance and His awesome plan for all of us.

Father of Light you are so good and so amazing. We worship you and bless your Name great Jehovah for all good things come from you. Thank you for sending the Comforter and for giving the power to be your witnesses in all of the world. You are the God of the Apostles on the day of Pentecost and you are the God of us today.

Amen and amen.

Love you dear friend,

Pam
