February 23-After It’s Over

Happy Friday. Can you believe we have hit another week’s end? So how was yours? It’s a lot easier to measure the success of something when it’s over than before it starts, isn’t it? Today, I’m headed to Clarksville, AR to speak in the morning. I don’t have anyway to measure the success of it today, before I do it. After it’s over, I can tell you how it went.

Once when Bob was in Bible College, we went to a service at a Jewish Synagogue and afterward we were given a tour. In the back and in the halls, there are plates on the walls, each with a name and a light by the name but less than 10 percent of them were lit. The Rabbi explained to us that these plaques were in memory of those who had passed and the light came on in the month of their death. He said “When a child is born, you have no idea what kind of a person that child will become, but when a person dies, you know what kind of a life they lived. Now, you can celebrate those who lived good lives!” I’m not so sure that’s a bad idea.

Celebration when you know something was good. I like to think that’s what we do when we remember our loved ones on Memorial and Labor Days and Day of the Dead. And I think thats not too far removed when we celebrate the Saints of God we read about in the Bible and sing songs about and celebrate the stories of David and Abraham and Paul and John.

But not our Precious Lord. Right? Because He is not over! He still is. He is the God of today, the God who was and the God who will be all at the same time. It’s hard for me to wrap my brain around that (kind of like Einstein’s theory of relativity) but I don’t have to understand it to know it’s true. We never have to worry about what month to light his lamp because, it’s ALWAYS on. He is the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end.

““Look, he is coming with the clouds,” and “every eye will see him, even those who pierced him”; and all peoples on earth “will mourn because of him.” So shall it be! Amen. “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.””

‭‭Revelation‬ ‭1:7-8‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Oh God we praise You for who You are—You are and have always been and will always be. Who can compare to your wisdom and your riches? You are the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. And hallelujah we shall see You coming on the clouds when You split that eastern sky and we will all bow and every tongue on earth will proclaim that You alone are God. Amen and amen.

Have a great Friday,

Love you dear one,

Pam
