January 4-No Fear

It’s Thursday and the new year is already Day 4! I trust it’s going well for you and yours. How are you doing with your resolutions? I’m doing OK with mine, but I’m not enthusiastic about it!

I read some Hellen Keller quotes yesterday. There are pages and pages of quotes of hers and lots of them seem really profound coming from her. One of them is “We could never learn to be brave and patient, if there were only joy in the world.” Another was “Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light.”

But the one I read over and over was “The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.” I kept thinking about that remarkable woman who could only communicate with her hands since she was blind and deaf, in a world of black and silence. When I think about being in the place where she lived her whole life (not hearing or seeing), I imagine my self being frightened—most all of the time, never knowing what will happen or who is coming. How brave she must have been and how she understood the importance of a vision.

But this lady, if she was afraid never let anyone know. By all accounts she was an amazingly brave, talented woman that literally didn’t let anything stop her. I pray for that kind of bravery—bravery that lets me head out into the unknown with only my faith to lead me.

“What I tell you now in the darkness, shout abroad when daybreak comes. What I whisper in your ear, shout from the housetops for all to hear! “Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell...If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭10:27-28, 39‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Today, let’s make sure we have vision, no fear, and strong faith in Jehovah to guide us through this new year. And what do we need to do to make that happen? It’s really not rocket science; it’s what we sang as little children in Sunday School. Read your Bible and pray every day and you’ll grow, grow, grow—grow in faith, grow in wisdom, grow in knowledge, and grow in boldness.

Have a great day, love you dear one,

Pam
