January 31-A Super Blue Moon

Happy Wednesday! You’ve made it to the middle of the week and I trust things are going well for you. Today is going to be a cool day. Sometimes we see rare events. A full moon only happens every 29.5 days so they are always exciting, every time. But, not since Jesse James made his first heist when Andrew Jackson was president have we seen a super blue moon and we are going to experience one tonight. We are getting all kinds of cool stuff in the next 2 months. A blue moon is 2 full moons in one month (an event that usually happens about once every three years or so) but we will have another in late March. A Super Blue Moon is a total lunar eclipse combined with the super moon

(when the moon is at its closest appearing 14% bigger and 40% brighter). 

It hasn’t happened in 150 years, and it’s coming tonight! 

So is there a kingdom comparison here? There are so many rare, rich treasures that we are excited to see, and so many things that are beyond comparison. So many cool events! And not just for science geeks like me. God’s Kingdom is a rare, awesome event. In Matthew 35, Jesús gives us a list of comparisons as to what it is like. 

““Or, God’s kingdom is like a jewel merchant on the hunt for excellent pearls. Finding one that is flawless, he immediately sells everything and buys it.”‭‭Matthew‬ ‭13:45-46‬ ‭

And the most rare, the most flawless will be when we see the great King, the Lamb on the Throne as John did. Truly the most rare of all sights. 

“So I looked, and there, surrounded by Throne, Animals, and Elders, was a Lamb, slaughtered but standing tall. Seven horns he had, and seven eyes, the Seven Spirits of God sent into all the earth. He came to the One Seated on the Throne and took the scroll from his right hand. The moment he took the scroll, the Four Animals and Twenty-four Elders fell down and worshiped the Lamb. Each had a harp and each had a bowl, a gold bowl filled with incense, the prayers of God’s holy people. And they sang a new song: Worthy! Take the scroll, open its seals. Slain! Paying in blood, you bought men and women, Bought them back from all over the earth, Bought them back for God. Then you made them a Kingdom, Priests for our God, Priest-kings to rule over the earth.”

Worthy are You God and worthy is the Lamb for all our praise and worship today. We praise you for you were slain but you are standing and we sing a new song, holy holy holy are you Lord God Almighty. Thank you for blessing us and living with us this very day and for the days to come. Amen and amen.

Happy Friday. It’s the end of another week and we have had more opportunities to share the love of Christ with those around us and sometimes that takes quite a bit of effort. I don’t know about you, but I’m not always anxious to embrace others and really listen to them or share with them (especially those who I don’t know well). Happy Wednesday to you. I hope your week is going well. Yesterday, I went to Sams. I was out of things like trash bags, toilet paper, and chicken, so off I went. I like going to Sams because there is always lots to look at and the isles are nice and wide. Everytime I’m there, I am amazed at how much stuff and everything from diapers to TVs to mangos to beds. It just seems incredible that so many things in such quantities are all under one roof.  King David never saw a store with as much stuff aa Sams of course, but he did see countless miracles and understand that God has plans. He knew from creation and history that he was serving a God of miracles and he know that God loved him and his people and would take care of them. It’s Thursday and I woke up to the blowing wind! Lots of it—I’m dreading Boomer waking up and having to go outside with him. That harsh, bitter wind seems cruel and almost evil. But I’ll wrap myself up with a fe layers and boots and brave it all.  Sometimes I think we try to do that with things we know aren’t right—things that are evil. We try to wrap ourselves up and just wade into it, but Paul tells us we should reject it—stay away from it. “Do not treat prophecies with contempt but test them all; hold on to what is good, reject every kind of evil. May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
