January 16–Indwelling in Us

Happy Tuesday to you and how are you doing? If you live in the Midwest anywhere close to me, you’re cold! We are freezing here just so the rest of you know. It’s not only cold, it’s brutal—the wind chills are at dangerous levels. So...I’m catching up on things I can do from under a comforter. And I’ve been doing some reading about the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in the believer. I’m wanting to understand more fully how the Spirit can be there in a very real basis—to help with every decision and every choice.

“Don’t you yourselves know that you are God’s sanctuary and that the Spirit of God lives in you?” ‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭3:16 ‭HCSB‬‬

The Holy Spirt manifesting itself in our lives can change everything from how we do business to how we treat people to what we prioritize. In the Old Testament, we see the Spirit of God coming upon people and working from above, without and within. In the New Testament the Spirit comes to dwell within the believer and works from within, without, and upward.

The particular point that I’ve been getting all over is that although every believer is given the Holy Spirit, so few believers take advantage of the power it provides to us. But without the faith or even faithfulness, many remain in the Old Testament type of Spirit rather than experiencing the full indwelling. It’s as though there is a faucet that is just dripping rather than turned fully on.

“I will honor the holiness of My great name, which has been profaned among the nations — the name you have profaned among them. The nations will know that I am Yahweh” — the declaration of the Lord God — “when I demonstrate My holiness through you in their sight...I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will remove your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. I will place My Spirit within you and cause you to follow My statutes and carefully observe My ordinances.”  Ezekiel‬ ‭36:23, 26-27‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

When the Holy Spirit is invited to possess me in a living, adoring faith, I can completely turn myself over to God’s leading and His working in my life. It makes you wonder what amazing things the church of Jesus could be capable of if it’s members collectively became aware of letting the Holy Spirit fully indwelling. A great and mighty army couldn’t help but arise. It’s a good contemplation.

Lord please help us to fully surrender and let your Spirit completely consume us from the inside out. Change us, mold us, and make us to be a holy dwelling place, your temple. Amen

Love you dear one (stay warm),

Pam
