Sunday-Get in the Game

Happy Lord’s Day! I hope this finds you well and ready to worship our Lord and Savior! I trust you are able to come together with fellow believers and corporately praise the King of Glory!

I watched an enormous amount of football yesterday. I love November football. It just gets so much more intense at this point—every down counts and even the freshmen players have enough under their belts at this point that they ready for the snap and are quick off the start. It was so exciting.

Then, in the middle of it all, I made myself a cup of tea. I have an electric tea pot so it’s not super slow, but it’s not certainly not instant or quick off the start. It’s not like November football. And as I poured that hot water over the tea bag, I thought again about our Christian fervor and how we are to be boiling for Christ and how we should be that way quickly. We need to be like November football players—Quick off every down, intense, leaving everything we have on the field for the cause of Christ, rather than an electric kettle that takes a few minutes to heat up and then cool off quickly if we don’t use it right then.

And on top of all that, I’m sure I’ve never seen anyone ever cheer for a teapot. It just passively sits on the cabinet. But just like November football, we are on the field, and we are surrounded by a crowd of witnesses that have already finished the race. Just like all the old ball players that sit in the stands and cheer on the young guys, those that have passed the baton to us are sitting in our stands.

“Do you see what this means—all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we’d better get on with it. Strip down, start running—and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And now he’s there, in the place of honor, right alongside God. When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls!”

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭12:1-3‬ ‭MSG‬‬

So are we ready for every snap? Quick off the line? Ready to go? Or are we passively waiting to be plugged in and wait to heat up? Be a player. It’s November!

Love you dear one,

Pam
