Friday—It’s all About Grace

It’s Finally Friday! Even though I’m not in school (and I haven’t been for a very long time), just hearing “it’s Friday” is still kind of exciting. Just like when I was 16 and we had football games, the 51 drive-in, and St. Michael’s Alley on Friday nights.

And back in those days, at UHS we had rules. Pretty strict rules. Rules that this A.D.D. kid broke more often than not, but those rules were definitely in place. And grades were not just a suggestion and teachers didn’t care if we felt bad if our papers were marked with lots of red ink when they were not perfect. And they were never perfect because no one was perfect. Ever. And Mr. Pope explained that to us in his very kind, but firm voice.

In the same way we can never attain our righteousness by living by the law. Living by rules and regulations and being perfect. It will never happen because there was only one who was ever perfect—and guess what, it wasn’t you and it certainly wasn’t me. It takes that perfect One’s red blood spilled all over our papers to redeem us—to pay for our imperfectness—to buy our pardon. Not us trying to live by the law or someone’s rules.

“For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are. But now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Moses and the prophets long ago. We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are...Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭3:20-22, 24‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Aren’t you glad you’ve been freed? You don’t have to be perfect or abide by every dot and dash that some man has deemed necessary for spiritual purity. But you are a living, breathing child of God covered by His grace, justified, made righteous to do His good works. Be about that.

Today, can we just give God the praise He is due for the wonderful gift of salvation? For paying our debt and freeing us? Praise the God who sets things right, who gives righteousness! And be about His business.

Love you dear one,

Pam
