Tuesday--All But Jehovah

Good Tuesday to you! I hope you are doing well and seeking the Lord's face this morning.

Sunday was Bob's birthday. It was a hard day for me but not a terrible day. My kids and grandkids were at my house and we had some fun times. We talked about Bob and how much fun he was.

I kept thinking about what a peaceful man he was. He wasn't perfect by any stretch, but I rarely saw anything out of him that caused me to think he was wanting more or trying to accumulate more or trying to get attention. He was a simple guy whose primary pursuit was to bring people to a saving knowledge of the Christ he worshipped.

Then, for some reason I thought about Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived but he spent half his life searching for wealth, pleasures, laughter, wine, projects, attention and wild times. He had it all but he found out that there was no happiness or satisfaction in any of it and he finally said "it's all vanity!"

“Then I took a good look at everything I’d done, looked at all the sweat and hard work. But when I looked, I saw nothing but smoke. Smoke and spitting into the wind. There was nothing to any of it. Nothing.”

Ecclesiastes 2:11 MSG

All this stuff offers to open our eyes, but it blinds us to what is important; it leads to being disillusioned and empty. Even our theology can become manipulated to the point that we use it to justify seeking wealth, wisdom and whatever when we should be seeking the pearl of great price.

Do you think somewhere along the way you've been misled? Thinking better job, more money, bigger house, better car, cooler TV and electronics, the newest telephone, the perfect woman/man, education is going to make everything great? How's it going? Is it working out like you'd planned? Are you receiving these experiences as blessings or are they much less? Whether you're in the fast lane with a horse and chariot like Solomon or a new BMW (or truck), the vain pursuits are the same--emptiness.

“Don’t love the world’s ways. Don’t love the world’s goods. Love of the world squeezes out love for the Father. Practically everything that goes on in the world—wanting your own way, wanting everything for yourself, wanting to appear important—has nothing to do with the Father. It just isolates you from him. The world and all its wanting, wanting, wanting is on the way out—but whoever does what God wants is set for eternity.”

1 John 2:15-17 (We're going to memorize this one!)

Today if you're seeking after something other than Jehovah God that you think is going to make you happy, let me be the first to break the news to you that it's all in vain. Christ came to give us abundant life and it's only in Him we find happiness, joy, peace, and contentment. Make sure you have your focus straight on the Master.

Love you friend,

Pam
